Reflectance Measurements of Human Skin
نویسندگان
چکیده
We use a novel image-based technique to measure the directional reflectance of living human skin. Using only a commercial-grade digital camera and electronic flash, we can collect many samples in a few minutes. By exploiting the body’s own curvature, we obtain data comprehensively covering a wide range of directions. We present results from several different individuals, showing interesting effects both individually and in their differences from each other.

The Reflectance Spectrum of Human Skin
Abstract The automated detection of human skin has become an important task for machine vision systems. Prior vision and graphics research on this topic has primarily focused on images acquired with conventional color cameras. Formal spectrographic analyses have largely been undertaken in the medical domain and focus on the detection of pathology. We have constructed a facility capable of produ...
متن کاملProbe pressure effects on human skin diffuse reflectance and fluorescence spectroscopy measurements.
Diffuse reflectance and fluorescence spectroscopy are popular research techniques for noninvasive disease diagnostics. Most systems include an optical fiber probe that transmits and collects optical spectra in contact with the suspected lesion. The purpose of this study is to investigate probe pressure effects on human skin spectroscopic measurements. We conduct an in-vivo experiment on human s...
متن کاملUnderstanding the color of human skin
The automated detection of humans in computer vision as well as the realistic rendering of people in computer graphics necessitates a better understanding of human skin reflectance. Prior vision and graphics research on this topic has primarily focused on images acquired with conventional color cameras. Although tri-color skin data is prevalent, it does not provide adequate information for expl...
متن کاملReflectance measurements of human skin from the ultraviolet to the shortwave infrared (250 nm to 2500 nm)
While published literature of the optical properties of human skin is prevalent for the visible region, data are sparse in the ultraviolet and shortwave infrared. Spectral imaging has expanded from primarily an earth remote sensing tool to a range of applications including medicine and security applications, as examples. These emerging applications will likely benefit from exemplar data of huma...
متن کاملA Physically-based Human Skin Reflection Model
A theoretical reflection model for human skin is presented. A layer of sebum has been included in the three-layer skin reflection model, since it is found over most parts of the body and contributes significantly to the specularity of human skin appearance. The Monte Carlo method is used to simulate the propagation of light in skin tissues. Optical and geometric properties are used as control p...
متن کاملImage-Based BRDF Measurement Including Human Skin
We present a new image-based process for measuring the bidirectional reflectance of homogeneous surfaces rapidly, completely, and accurately. For simple sample shapes (spheres and cylinders) the method requires only a digital camera and a stable light source. Adding a 3D scanner allows a wide class of curved near-convex objects to be measured. With measurements for a variety of materials from p...
